Prince of the beat scene Onra announces his 2011 debut Australian tour for Niche Productions, performing music from his highly lauded previous, and hugely anticipated upcoming projects including November’s ‘ChinoIseries 2’, the follow up to the immensely successful 2010 record ‘Long Distance.’

At once lush and exhilarating, Onra’s music is a stylistic navigation through a myriad of decades and genres – the beat blender melting up Chinese funk, noughties nu-disco, gully street hip-hop sounds and 80s pop – to create beautifully addictive tune after tune, winning fans and breaking hearts with each broken beat:

‘Warm and luxurious… Beats ebb and flow with irregularity, always staying present but choosing to smack against your eardrums with varying levels of force… conveying images of fire hydrants, street fairs, and melted popsicles’ Pitchfork 8.0/10

Born and based in Paris, France, Onra (or Arnaud Bernaud, as he is less well-known) first appeared on his producer friend Quetzal’s 2006 collab-album Tribute. Since then the Red Bull Music Academy attendee has had the internet buzzing over several releases which see the producer skilfully manoeuvre through a myriad of influences. His ‘Chinoiseries 2’ album, set to drop in November on All City, is being waited upon with bated breath and it’s not hard to see why – Onra’s keen engagement with the a la mode of current beat music set to the backdrop of the rhythms and dynamism of hip hop has been, and no doubt will again be a surefire winner.

Onra performs live at the Sonar Festival 2009

Coloured Stone 2 time ARIA nominated and award winning band are hitting the road to support their 11th studio album “Beautiful World” produced by Niall Anderson. Bunna Lawries’ Coloured Stone’ have been the people’s band of a generation as well as being the oldest Australian Indigenous band that are still actively releasing albums and touring.

Coloured Stone have graced the Stage at The Big Day Out & Woodford Folk Festival and recently performed at MCG along with Yung Warriors as a part of the annual Dreamtime Game in celebration of the Indigenous communities’ contribution to the AFL performing to over 84,000 people with a national TV coverage of 800,000.

Javi had collaborations with Undrez in the famous City Hall in Barcelona, called Club 4, owned by Cristian Smith , Adam Beyer , Paco Osuna and Marco Carola . His style is defined as a mix between Deep and Tech House , Minimal and Funky Techno. Javi adds his own salsa to his music by using a special set up that allows him to create a particular atmosphere and control every aspect of his diverse mix.

Jade began his love of djing, playing electro house but found his niche in the slowly growing popularity of the tech house and techno scene where he felt more excitement with.
He played his first gig in 2002 at Choppy Choppy on the Northern Beaches and after becoming a resident for Golden Cage, supporting the all time legend DESYN MASIELLO, Sasha Le Monnier & playing at Venues across Sydney such as SOHO, The Forbes, World Bar, The Beauchamp, The Surf Rock & Burdekin, his passion has continued to grow.

WE’RE SO EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE WET HAIR (IOWA CITY, IOWA, USA) + NAKED ON THE VAGUE (SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA) + BOB RAFELSON’S ‘HEAD’.

$10 ENTRY THIS TIME ( INTERNATIONAL BAND)

ZINE FOR EACH PAYER.

ABOUT WET HAIR :
Wet Hair is Shawn Reed and Ryan Garbes, the two remaining members of Raccoo-oo-oon that stayed in Iowa City after the bands end. Reed also runs Night-People Records, which Garbes often contributes to. Wet Hair began as a solo outing for Reed in late 2007 during the final months of Raccoo-oo-oon, and after the release of a 12” EP and the Irifi Cassette Garbes was added on organ and live drums. Wet Hair has evolved over time shifting the bands sound steadily towards a more refined pop sensibility. An experimental attitude and psychedelic atmosphere still prevails in Wet Hair’s music and the core instrumentation of the band has largely stayed consistent throughout with Reed on vocals, synth, drum machine, + tapes and Garbes on live drums, + synth/organ. Recently the band has evolved into a trio with bassist Justin Tye rounding out the group.

To date Wet Hair has released a 12” EP on Night-People, three cassettes on Night-People, the LP’s Dream and Glass Fountain on Not Not Fun, a split 7” with Peaking Lights on Not Not Fun, a split 7” with Rene Hell on Bathetic, and a split LP with Naked on the Vague on Night-People. In late 2010 Wet Hair added third member Matt Fenner to the group on bass and synth to help create their third full length album, In Vogue Spirit, which came out on De Stijl Records in May 2011.

ABOUT NOTV:
Naked On the Vague is Lucy (keys/vox/drum box), Matthew (guitar/electronics), Nic (bass guitar) and Lachlan (drums).
Naked On The Vague were born out of Sydney, Australia in 2006, taking to the world their own style of apocalyptic no-wave pop and dark psychedelic weirdness… Originally a keys, guitar and drum machine duo, the band recently expanded to include a ‘proper’ rhythm section to the effect of upping the garagey-pop vibe, yet also the visceral density.
The Naked On The Vague approach meshes punk, industrial and psychedelic sounds all tinkered with a heavy dose of distortion and delay.

ABOUT HEAD:
Head is a 1968 psychedelic no-opening credits comedy-adventure major motion picture, starring TV group The Monkees (in credit order: Peter Tork, Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz and Michael Nesmith), and distributed by Columbia Pictures. It was written and produced by Bob Rafelson and Jack Nicholson, and directed by Rafelson.

THIS NIGHT IS GONNA ROCK!!

Grindin’ & The Main Ingredients are pleased to announce the first solo show in Sydney for one of Hip Hop’s most lyrical MC’s live and direct from Detroit, Elzhi.

Elzhi made his international debut on “Come and Get It,” a stand out song from Jay Dee’s (J Dilla) debut album, “Welcome 2 Detroit”. The widespread praise for the track led to Elzhi joining the group Slum Village in 2002. The albums that Elzhi recorded as a member of the group – “Trinity”, “Detroit Deli” and “Slum Village” – have sold more than 600,000 copies and established Slum Village as one of the most respected Hip Hop groups in the world.

In 2009, Elzhi hired a new manager who immediately made enquiries into Slum Village’s contract with E1 music regarding their new album. RJ Rice, the founder of the group’s long-time label, Barak Records (n.k.a. Ne’Astra Music Group) responded by cutting Elzhi’s appearances on “The Villa Manifesto” LP in half. Ultimately, the label made the decision to remove Elzhi from Slum Village.

With The JAE.B Group as new management since 2010 and Elzhi’s departure from the record label that is home of Slum Village, Elzhi is now focused on reaching new heights. After a decade of recording, and years of international touring under his belt, Elzhi has the focus and experience to conquer new levels of success as a solo artist and one of the greatest emcees.

In mid 2011 Elzhi released his eagerly anticipated mixtape, “Elmatic”, a homage to Nas’ widely praised debut “Illmatic”. With his positive image and undeniable talent, Elzhi is considered to be one of the greatest emcees in the world. As he moves forward, Elzhi will continue to build on his strong, international fan base.

Space is the Place is very excited to have Samiyam back in Sydney after his amazing debut last year.

On the heels of his first full-length Brainfeeder release, Sam Baker's album, and past releases on Hyperdub and Poobah, Sam has earned himself a reputation as a bad man of the scene for his heavy funk, smoked and swagged out sound. With queues to Dilla, Motown, 90s Hip Hop and Mario Brothers, Samiyam's live show brings these together and displays a world that is unique, soulful and full of colour.

Joined by some of Sydney's best beat producers and djs this is not a night to be missed!

On the heels of his first full-length Brainfeeder release, Sam Baker’s album, and past releases on Hyperdub and Poobah, Sam has earned himself a reputation as a bad man of the scene for his heavy funk, smoked and swagged out sound. With queues to Dilla, Motown, 90s Hip Hop and Mario Brothers, Samiyam’s live show brings these together and displays a world that is unique, soulful and full of colour.

SAMIYAM

Since the year 2004, Sam has been the proud owner of two midi cables. They are currently in his closet under some other shit.

Such is SAMIYAM‘s bio on his social media sites; this soulful joker of the Brainfeeder clan has garnered an international following for his shifty, slouchy, street-infused beats. Funky and disjointed, SAMIYAM’s music thumps with a hip hop backbone and swaggers into the future through a smoky cloud of jazz influences and a twisted sensibility.

With a wide sweep of inspiration from video games to Italian horror movies to Michael Jackson, SAMIYAM unravels sounds then shoves them back together in clever new ways. His music mutates and then takes shape into a hard and sloppy sonic experience, textured by wet beats that drip with soul. Like concrete smashing through a dirty window, the sound of SAMIYAM shatters expectations, and if you listen closely to the fragmented shards of bouncing street bass- you can hear his swag.
