Spit Syndicate (Obese Records)

Since bursting onto the local music scene in 2007, Sydney duo Spit Syndicate have established themselves as some of the country’s most exciting new hip-hop groups. Hailing from Sydney’s Inner West, rappers Nick Lupi and Jimmy Nice have steadily developed an electric buzz and loyal following across the country. Spit Syndicate caught the attention of the local hip-hop scene off the back of several guest appearances and a number of widely-circulated but now extremely rare mixtapes. After signing with hip-hop powerhouse Obese Records, Spit Syndicate released their debut LP Towards the Light in June 2008, an album which spurned two national tours and earned the pair an ARIA nomination. Spit Syndicate are renowned for blending sharp lyrical skills, vivid storytelling, slamming beats and soulful groove at a level which belies their young ages. Joining the Double S on stage is the larger-than-life DJ Joyride, and their live performances have earned the group nation-wide notoriety for their dynamic, high-energy live show. Released in May 2010, Spit Syndicate’s sophomore album “Exile” is a refined, soulful offering, replete with head-nodding groove and lyrical substance, and showcases the progression of the group.

Skryptcha (Obese Records)

Taking his first lyrical strides in 2003, Skryptcha is blessed by the gifts of a musical family; a grandfather who spent the 60’s distilling in Sydney’s jazz movement and a concert pianist grandmother who became Australia’s first entrant into New York’s prestigious Julliard school of music, his instrumentally-charged upbringing laid the foundations for a distinct vocal talent that would ultimately evolve into his debut EP, Left to Write. Having tested his ability on several guest appearances (including spending studio time with the legendary Def Wish Cast) and on stage with Scott Burns, 2buck and new labelmates Dialectrix, Thundamentals and Pegz, Left to Write is the young MC’s initial solo foray into the recorded realm, an occasion sparked by the introduction to maestro/producer Chasm by label boss Pegz. Skryptcha’s youthful energy on record and on stage provides the urgency for his borderless musical tastes.
